How to Draw a Clownfish

13 steps · Medium · about 10 min

Draw a clownfish in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: eye and kissy lips.

Print

  1. Step 1: Eye and kissy lips

On the left, draw a huge round eye. In front, draw kissy B lips. Add a small smile behind them.

Tip The lips are as tall as the eye. Leave room on the right.

  2. Step 2: Fat egg body

From the top of the lips draw a rainbow over the eye, down to a thin tail end. Same underneath.

  3. Step 3: Bow-tie tail

From the back's end draw a fat C lobe in to a dent, then a smaller C to the belly.

  4. Step 4: Top fin

Start on the back above the eye. Draw a long, low hump and stop on the back past the middle.

Tip Add 2 short ray lines inside, fanning up.

  5. Step 5: First white band

A finger behind the eye, draw a line from the back down to the belly. Draw another a finger along.

  6. Step 6: Side fin

Behind the white band, below the middle, draw a flat leaf pointing at the tail. Add 2 short rays.

  7. Step 7: Belly fin

Under the side fin, start on the belly. Draw a small sail leaning back to a round tip, and back.

  8. Step 8: 2 more bands

Behind the side fin, draw 2 lines from the back to the belly. Draw 2 more just before the tail.

Tip All the bands bow the same way, like rainbows on their side.

  9. Step 9: Bubbles

Just above the lips, draw 3 bubbles floating up in a gentle curve, each bigger than the one below.

  10. Step 10: Sand and anemone

Draw a wavy sand line across the bottom. On the left draw fat fingers from the sand up and back.

Tip Fingers of different heights, leaning a little. Add a few on the right.

  11. Step 11: Sand and bubbles

Colour the sand tan, down to the bottom of the paper. Colour the bubbles light blue.

  12. Step 12: Pink cheek, orange fish

Colour a pink cheek under the eye. Colour the fish orange around it. Leave the eye and bands white.

  13. Step 13: Purple anemone

    Colour the anemone fingers purple.
