How to Draw a Baby Sea Turtle

13 steps · Medium · about 10 min

Draw a baby sea turtle in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: big egg head.

Print

  1. Step 1: Big egg head

On the left of your paper draw a big egg on its side, fist-sized and wider in front.

Tip A baby turtle is mostly head. Leave room on the right for the shell.

  2. Step 2: Eye, nose and smile

In the head's front half draw a big round eye with a black dot. Add a nostril and smile.

Tip The eye is huge, a third as tall as the head. Leave it white around the dot.

  3. Step 3: Small round shell

Just behind the head draw a small round dome shell, like half an orange, with a nearly flat bottom.

Tip Only a little wider than the head. Rub out the bit behind the head.

  4. Step 4: Rim and neck

Start at the shell's front bottom corner. Draw a band under the whole shell and stop at the back corner.

Tip Curl the band's ends. Add a short neck from under the head into the front of the band.

  5. Step 5: Front flipper

Under the front of the shell draw a long flipper from the rim, down and forward to a round tip.

Tip It grows from under the rim, in front of the neck.

  6. Step 6: Back flipper

Under the back of the shell draw a smaller flipper from the rim, down to a round tip.

  7. Step 7: Far flipper

Just behind the front flipper, draw a strip of the far flipper peeking out, from the rim to its tip.

Tip Only a thin edge shows. The rest hides behind the near flipper.

  8. Step 8: The tail

At the back of the rim, draw a tiny pointed tail poking out backwards, above the back flipper.

  9. Step 9: The honeycomb

In the middle of the shell draw a hexagon. Draw 6 short lines from its corners to the shell's edge.

Tip Now the shell looks like it is made of tiles.

  10. Step 10: Sandy beach

Start near the left edge. Draw a flat beach line under the flippers, to near the right edge.

Tip The flipper tips rest on the line.

  11. Step 11: Sand and pink cheek

Go over your lines. Colour the beach sandy down to the bottom edge. Dab a pink cheek under the eye.

  12. Step 12: Tan rim, green skin

Colour the rim tan, then the head, neck, near flippers and tail leaf green around the cheek.

    Tip Leave the eye white.

  13. Step 13: Dark green shell

Colour the shell and the far flipper dark green.
