How to Draw a Running Track

10 steps · Medium · about 8 min

Draw a running track in 10 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the outside edge.

Print

  1. Step 1: The outside edge

Draw a big loop across your paper: a straight top and bottom joined by a round curve at each end.

Tip The two round ends are half circles the same size.

  2. Step 2: The inside edge

Inside it draw a smaller loop the same shape, leaving a wide band all the way round.

  3. Step 3: Middle lane line

Draw another loop halfway between the two edges, all the way round the band.

  4. Step 4: Four lanes

Draw 2 more loops, one in each half of the band. Now the track has 4 lanes.

  5. Step 5: Finish line

On the bottom straight draw 2 lines close together across all 4 lanes, from edge to edge.

  6. Step 6: The field

In the middle of the track draw a long box that does not touch the inside edge.

  7. Step 7: Halfway line and circle

Draw a line down the middle of the box, from top to bottom. Add a small circle in the centre.

  8. Step 8: End boxes

At each end of the field draw a small box, starting and stopping on the end line.

  9. Step 9: Orange track

Colour all 4 lanes orange. Leave the thin finish line white.

  10. Step 10: Green grass

Colour everything inside the track green. Go over your lines and your running track is ready to race!
