How to Draw a Rugby Player

14 steps · Medium · about 11 min

Draw a rugby player in 14 easy steps, about 11 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: egg head.

Print

  1. Step 1: Egg head

Near the top of your paper draw an egg head, a little narrower at the chin.

Tip Leave room on the right for the arm that reaches out.

  2. Step 2: The face

On the right half of the head draw 2 oval eyes and a smile. Add an ear on the left.

Tip Put a black dot in each eye. The face sits to the right because the player runs that way.

  3. Step 3: Short hair

Start above the right eye. Draw hair over the top and down the back, then a fringe line back.

Tip Rub out the head line inside the hair.

  4. Step 4: Neck and jersey

Draw a short neck. Under it draw a bean body leaning forward a little, with a flat bottom.

  5. Step 5: Shorts

Under the jersey draw shorts that spread out wide, with an upside-down V between the legs.

  6. Step 6: Running legs

Draw the front leg stepping forward with a bent knee. Draw the back leg kicking up behind.

Tip Legs are wide at the top and thin at the ankle.

  7. Step 7: Boots and socks

Draw a boot flat under the front leg, and one pointing down on the back leg. Add 2 sock lines.

Tip Rub out the leg ends inside the boots. Each sock line crosses a shin, from edge to edge. Add a long ground line under the front boot.

  8. Step 8: Rugby ball

Over the tummy draw a fat oval ball with soft points, tipped up at the front.

Tip Rub out the jersey and shorts lines inside the ball.

  9. Step 9: Tucking arm

From the shoulder draw an arm down to the elbow, then along under the ball to a mitten hand.

Tip Add a sleeve line across the arm above the elbow. Rub out the lines the arm hides.

  10. Step 10: Balance arm

From the front of the chest draw the other arm reaching out, ending in an open mitten.

  11. Step 11: Hoops and seam

From edge to edge draw 2 hoop lines across the sleeve and 2 across the chest. Add a ball seam.

Tip The seam runs along the ball, from the arm to the front tip.

  12. Step 12: Peach skin, pink cheek

Colour the face, ear, neck, arms, hands and knees peach, with a pink cheek. Leave the eyes white.

  13. Step 13: Sandy ball, red hoops

Colour the ball sandy. Colour the top and bottom hoops, on the chest and the sleeve, and both socks red.

  14. Step 14: Blue shorts, brown hair

Colour the shorts blue, the hair brown and the boots black. Leave the middle hoop white.
