How to Draw a Salute

Draw a salute in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the head.

Step 1: The head
Near the top, in the middle, draw an egg for the head, a little narrower at the chin.
Tip Leave most of the page below for the body and legs.
Step 2: The face
Below the middle draw 2 big eyes, each with a dot and a shine. Add a nose, a smile and 2 eyebrows.
Step 3: Soft hair cap
Start on the left of the head. Draw a row of soft tufts over the top, stop on the right.
Tip Round bumps like little clouds, not spikes.
Step 4: Neck and T-shirt
Draw 2 neck lines. From the left one draw a T-shirt, right sleeve lifted, and stop at the right one.
Step 5: Arm at the side
Start on the left sleeve. Draw an arm hanging straight down, stop at the wrist. Add a mitten hand.
Step 6: The saluting arm
From the lifted sleeve draw an arm out to a round elbow, up to the eyebrow, with a flat hand.
Tip Keep the fingers together, with a little thumb underneath. The fingertips just touch the end of the eyebrow.
Step 7: Trousers
Start at the shirt's bottom left corner. Draw 2 long trouser legs and stop at the bottom right corner.
Tip The legs reach nearly to the bottom of the page.
Step 8: Shoes
Under each trouser leg draw a shoe with the toe pointing out. Add a small curve across the toe.
Step 9: Belt and ground
Under the T-shirt draw a belt line, side to side. Add a buckle in the middle and a ground line.
Step 10: Peach skin, pink cheeks
Colour the face, neck, arms and hands peach, with a pink circle on each cheek. Leave the eyes white.
Step 11: Yellow buckle, red shirt
Colour the buckle yellow. Colour the T-shirt red, around the buckle.
Step 12: Blue and brown
Colour the trousers blue. Colour the hair, belt and shoes brown, around the buckle. Your salute is done!
