How to Draw a Roundhouse Train
Draw a roundhouse train in 11 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the curved wall.
Step 1: The curved wall
Across the middle of your paper draw a long wide wall: short sides, a rainbow curve on top, smile below.
Tip Each engine is spun on the table and rolled into its own bay.
Step 2: Roof and top vent
Just above the wall draw a thick curved roof a little wider than the wall. Add a tiny house.
Step 3: Five bays
Along the front of the wall draw 5 tall arched doorways. The middle one is tallest.
Step 4: The ground
Draw the ground line from each bottom corner of the wall out to the edge of the paper.
Step 5: The turntable
Below the shed draw a big wide oval with a second oval inside. Draw a straight line across the middle.
Step 6: Tracks to the bays
Start on the oval and draw 2 rails up to each door but the middle. Add 3 sleepers across each.
Step 7: The engine
On the bridge draw a left-facing engine: a low box, a tall cab with a window, a funnel, 3 wheels.
Step 8: The sun
Draw a small sun with short rays near the top left corner.
Step 9: Sky window, yellow sun
Go over your lines. Colour the cab window sky blue and the sun yellow.
Step 10: Grey ground, green engine
Colour the ground and turntable grey, to the edges. Colour the engine green, around the window, and its wheels black.
Step 11: Brick wall, slate roof
Colour the wall brick red. Colour the roof, the vent and every bay slate. Your roundhouse is done!

Your finished drawing
Follow the steps above and this is where you end up: a roundhouse train, drawn by you.
