How to Draw Rock Collecting

Step 1: The head

Near the top of your paper, left of middle, draw an egg for the head, narrower at the chin.

Tip Leave room on the right for the magnifying glass.

Step 2: The face

Draw 2 small eyes, a nose and a smile. Add 2 C ears, each starting and ending on the head.

Step 3: Sun hat

Start left, above the eyes. Draw the hat over the top and down to the right. Add a floppy brim.

Step 4: Neck and T-shirt

Draw 2 neck lines. From the left one draw a T-shirt round to the right one, right sleeve pointing up.

Step 5: Arms

Left arm: from the sleeve, hang down to the wrist. Right arm: from the sleeve, bend up beside the head.

Tip The right fist will hold the magnifying glass, the left the bucket.

Step 6: Hands

On the left wrist draw a fist like a fat egg, pointing down. On the right, a fist pointing up.

Step 7: Magnifying glass

Start behind the raised fist, draw a handle up, stopping at a round lens. Add a shine and a rock.

Tip The handle passes behind the fist, beside the head, never over the face.

Step 8: Bucket of rocks

Under the left fist draw a bucket, rocks heaped on top, and a handle from the fist down to it.

Step 9: Shorts, legs, sneakers

From the hem's left end draw shorts round to its right end. Add 2 legs and sneakers.

Step 10: Boulder and pebble

Right of the sneakers draw a lumpy boulder with a crack and a pebble. Add a ground line under everything.

Step 11: Peach skin, pink cheeks

Colour the face, neck, arms, hands and legs peach, with a pink circle on each cheek. Go over your lines!

Tip Keep the eyes white.

Step 12: Yellow T-shirt

Colour the T-shirt and its sleeves yellow.

Step 13: Sky lens, wooden handle

Colour the lens sky blue around the little rock, and the magnifying glass handle wood brown.

Step 14: Green hat and shorts

Colour the hat and the shorts green.

Step 15: Red bucket, grey rocks

Colour the bucket red, then the rocks in it, the boulder, the pebble and the lens rock grey.
