How to Draw a Tug of War

20 steps · Tricky · about 15 min

Draw a tug of war in 20 steps, about 15 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: two heads.

Print

  1. Step 1: Two heads

Draw 2 egg heads near the top, one on the left and one on the right, with a wide gap.

Tip The kids lean back, so leave room below them.

  2. Step 2: Left kid's face

Give the left kid 2 eyes, a nose, a smile and a C ear starting and stopping on the head.

  3. Step 3: Right kid's face

Give the right kid 2 eyes, a nose and a smile, sitting a little toward the middle.

  4. Step 4: The cap

On the left kid, draw a round cap over the top of the head, with its peak pointing right.

  5. Step 5: Bob hair

On the right kid, draw hair from a fringe over the eyes, round the top and down the back.

  6. Step 6: Leaning T-shirt

From the left chin, draw neck lines down to a T-shirt that leans back, with a sleeve to the middle.

Tip The top of the body leans away from the middle.

  7. Step 7: Shorts

From the back corner of the T-shirt, draw shorts round the seat, stopping at the front corner.

  8. Step 8: Leaning dress

From the right chin, draw neck lines down to a dress that leans back, with a sleeve to the middle.

  9. Step 9: Arms

From each sleeve, draw an arm reaching toward the middle, with a second arm peeking out above it.

Tip The arms get thinner toward the wrist.

  10. Step 10: Four fists

At the end of the arms, draw 2 round fists for each kid, side by side at the same height.

  11. Step 11: The rope

Draw a thick rope through all 4 fists, its ends hanging down low behind each kid, with twist lines.

Tip The rope dips a little in the middle.

  12. Step 12: The flag

Hang a small triangle flag under the middle of the rope.

  13. Step 13: Bent legs

Under the shorts and the dress, draw 2 legs for each kid: a long front leg, a bent back leg.

  14. Step 14: Shoes

Give every leg a shoe, leaving a gap between them. The front shoes dig in their heels, toes up.

  15. Step 15: Ground

Draw a ground line under all the shoes and a short mark in the middle, under the flag.

  16. Step 16: Pink cheeks, peach faces

Colour the cheeks pink, then the faces, the ear and the necks peach around them. Leave the eyes white.

  17. Step 17: Peach arms and legs

Colour all the arms, fists and legs peach.

  18. Step 18: Yellow T-shirt, tan rope

Colour the T-shirt yellow and the rope tan, around the fists.

  19. Step 19: Red cap, green dress

Colour the cap, the flag and all 4 shoes red. Colour the dress green.

  20. Step 20: Blue shorts, brown hair

Colour the shorts blue and the hair brown. Go over your lines and your tug of war is done!
