How to Draw a Painter
Draw a painter in 20 steps, about 15 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the head.
Step 1: The head
Near the top, a little left of the middle, draw an egg for the head, narrower at the chin.
Tip Leave room on the right for a raised arm and a roller.
Step 2: The face
Draw 2 oval eyes, a nose and a smile, with a small oval cheek beside each end.
Step 3: Ears
Draw a C ear on each side: start on the head line, curve out, and stop back on the head.
Step 4: The cap
Over the top of the head, draw a round dome for the cap, with a little button on top.
Step 5: The bill
From the cap's bottom middle, draw a long round bill poking out left past the head, back to the cap.
Tip Keep the bill above the eyes.
Step 6: Neck and T-shirt
Draw 2 neck lines under the chin. From the left one, draw a short-sleeved T-shirt round to the right one.
Step 7: Overalls bib
On the chest, draw a bib box with a strap from each top corner to the neck. Add a pocket.
Step 8: Left arm
From the left sleeve, draw 2 lines down to the wrist, a little closer together at the bottom.
Step 9: Raised arm
From the right sleeve, draw 2 lines down to a soft round elbow, then up to the wrist.
Tip This hand will hold the roller up high.
Step 10: Hands
On each wrist, start on one arm line and draw a round fist, stopping on the other.
Tip Give the raised fist a finger line.
Step 11: Roller handle
Above the raised fist, draw a short fat handle poking up, as if the fist holds it.
Step 12: The roller
Up above the fist, draw a fat sausage roller. Add a curve from top to bottom at its left end.
Step 13: Bent wire
From the roller's right end, draw a fat bent wire out, down, and in to the top of the handle.
Step 14: Trousers
Start at the left end of the hem. Draw 2 trouser legs down and up, stopping at the right end.
Step 15: Shoes
Under each trouser leg, draw a shoe with its toe pointing out.
Step 16: Paint tin
Left of the shoes, draw a tin with an oval top. Its U handle starts and stops on the top.
Step 17: Ground line
Start left of the tin and draw a ground line under it and the shoes, stopping below the roller.
Step 18: Peach skin, pink cheeks
Go over your lines. Colour the face, ears, neck, arms and hands peach around the cheeks. Colour the cheeks pink.
Tip Leave the eyes and the cap white.
Step 19: Sky shirt, grey tin
Colour the shirt sky blue around the bib, and the tin and wire grey. Leave the overalls white.
Step 20: Blue paint, brown shoes
Colour the roller and the paint in the tin blue, and the handle and shoes brown. Your painter is done!
