How to Draw a Ringtail

13 steps · Medium · about 10 min

Draw a ringtail in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: big soft head.

Print

  1. Step 1: Big soft head

Near the top of your paper draw a big egg head lying on its side, with puffy cheeks.

Tip More than half the ringtail: leave room on the right for a long tail.

  2. Step 2: Eye patches

In the middle of the head draw 2 big round patches side by side, with a gap between them.

Tip A ringtail has a pale ring round each eye.

  3. Step 3: Big eyes

Inside each patch draw a big egg eye with a black dot and a shine. Leave a rim round it.

  4. Step 4: Big ears

On each top corner of the head draw a big tall ear with a round tip. Add a smaller one inside.

  5. Step 5: Nose and smile

Under the patches draw a wide sideways oval. On its top edge draw a black nose and a W smile.

  6. Step 6: Round body

Start on the left cheek. Draw a big C down and along the bottom, up to the right cheek.

Tip The body is narrower than the head.

  7. Step 7: Front legs

Below the chin draw 2 legs, thinner at the ankle, into fat mitten paws on the ground. Add toe lines.

  8. Step 8: Back legs

On each side draw a bun back paw, with a plump C leg above it. Add a ground line.

  9. Step 9: Long bushy tail

Start on the right back leg. Draw a long fat tail out and up to a round tip, then back.

Tip The tail is as long as the whole ringtail.

  10. Step 10: Tail rings

Across the tail draw 6 curved lines like bracelets, from one edge to the other, evenly spaced.

  11. Step 11: Cream and pink

Colour the eye patches, the muzzle and 3 tail bands cream. Colour the inner ears pink.

Tip On the tail skip the band by the body, then colour every other one. Leave the eyes white.

  12. Step 12: Light brown fur

Colour the head, ears, body and legs light brown, around the cream parts. Leave the eyes white.

  13. Step 13: Black tail rings

Colour the other tail bands black, with a black tip. Your ringtail is done!
