How to Draw an Ouroboros
Draw an ouroboros in 10 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the ring body.
Step 1: The ring body
Draw a fat tube bent into a big ring, thinning round to a pointed tail tip at the top.
Tip An ouroboros is a snake curled in a circle, biting its own tail!
Step 2: The head
On the ring's top draw an egg head on its side, mouth open wide round the tail tip.
Tip Upper jaw and lower jaw with a V gap between, the tail tip inside.
Step 3: Two big eyes
On the top half of the head draw 2 round eyes with dots and shines. Add a tiny nostril dot.
Step 4: The belly line
From the head draw a belly line on the ring near its inner edge, joining that edge at the right.
Tip It goes round the bottom, a finger in from the inner edge.
Step 5: Oval spots
On the outer half of the band draw 7 little oval spots spread round, none near the head.
Step 6: Ground and shadow
Draw a straight ground line under the ring from side to side, with a flat oval shadow under it.
Step 7: Two sparkles
Draw a little 4-point sparkle star high up on each side of the ring.
Step 8: Yellow belly and spots
Go over your lines. Colour the belly strip, the spots and both sparkles yellow.
Step 9: Grey shadow
Colour the flat shadow under the ring grey.
Step 10: Green snake
Colour the head and ring green, around the yellow parts. Leave the eyes white. Your ouroboros is done!
