How to Draw a Ringmaster

Step 1: The head

Near the top of your paper, in the middle, draw an egg head, a little narrower at the chin.

Tip Leave most of the page below for the body and legs.

Step 2: Face and moustache

In the middle of the head draw 2 big eyes, a U nose, a smile and a curly moustache.

Step 3: Top hat

Above the eyes draw a wide flat brim. From the brim draw a tall box, back down to the brim.

Step 4: Neck and tailcoat

Draw 2 neck lines under the chin. From the left one draw a coat, back up to the right one.

Tip Round shoulders, and a hem below the hips.

Step 5: Lapels and bow tie

From each neck line slant a lapel down to a V on the chest. Add a bow tie.

Tip The bow tie is 2 triangles pointing at each other.

Step 6: Coat tails

From each end of the hem draw a narrow tail hanging down behind the legs, back up to the hem.

Step 7: Long sleeves

From each shoulder draw a long sleeve: the right one hangs down, the left one bends out at the elbow.

Step 8: Fists

On the right wrist draw a round hand hanging down. On the left wrist draw a fist pointing out.

Step 9: Megaphone

From the left fist draw a cone getting wider, closed with an oval. Curve a rim across near the oval.

Step 10: Trousers, shoes, ground

Start at the hem's left end. Draw 2 trouser legs, back up to the right end. Add shoes and ground.

Step 11: Peach skin, pink cheeks

Colour the face, neck and hands peach, with pink cheeks.

Tip Keep the eyes white.

Step 12: Brown shoes, yellow megaphone

Colour the shoes brown and the megaphone yellow, but not its rim. Leave the shirt between the lapels white.

Step 13: Red coat, black hat

Colour the coat, sleeves, tails and megaphone rim red. Colour the hat, bow tie and trousers black.

Tip Go over your lines and your ringmaster is done!
