How to Draw a Mime

12 steps · Medium · about 9 min

Draw a mime in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the head.

Print

  1. Step 1: The head

Near the top of your paper draw an egg for the head, a little narrower at the chin.

Tip Leave most of the page below for the body and legs.

  2. Step 2: Face and painted tear

Draw 2 oval eyes, a U nose and a smile. Paint a little teardrop under the left eye.

  3. Step 3: Beret and eyebrows

Draw a floppy beret drooping over one side, with a tiny stalk on top. Add 2 arched eyebrows under it.

  4. Step 4: Neck and striped shirt

Draw 2 neck lines, then a vest shape from the left one round to the right one. Add 6 stripes.

Tip Space them evenly, with a white band at the top and at the bottom.

  5. Step 5: Little scarf

Under the chin, between the neck lines, draw a small triangle pointing down for a knotted scarf.

  6. Step 6: Long sleeves

From each shoulder draw a long sleeve down to the wrist and back up to the armpit. Add a cuff.

Tip Let each sleeve get narrower toward the wrist, with a soft bend at the elbow.

  7. Step 7: White gloves

Under each sleeve draw a mitten glove, round like an egg bottom, with a little thumb bump pointing in.

  8. Step 8: Trousers

Start at the shirt's bottom left corner. Draw 2 long trouser legs and stop at the bottom right corner.

  9. Step 9: Shoes and ground

Under each leg draw a shoe, toe pointing out, with a flat sole and round toe. Add a ground line.

  10. Step 10: Peach neck, pink cheeks

Leave the face, eyes and gloves white. Colour the neck peach and the cheeks pink.

  11. Step 11: Red scarf, black beret

Colour the little scarf red, then the beret and its stalk black.

  12. Step 12: Black sleeves and stripes

Colour the sleeves, trousers, shoes and every other stripe black, starting under the scarf. Your mime is done!

Tip The bottom stripe stays white, so the shirt ends before the trousers.
