How to Draw a Rhinoceros Beetle
Draw a rhinoceros beetle in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: a small head.
Step 1: A small head
A little above the middle, draw a small egg on its side for the head. Leave room above and below.
Step 2: Two big eyes
In the middle of the head, draw 2 big egg eyes. Add a black dot and white shine in each.
Step 3: Smile and cheeks
Under the eyes, draw a wide open smile like a half moon. Add a round cheek out beside each corner.
Step 4: A big horn
Start on top of the head. Draw a wide horn curving up and left to a point, then back down.
Tip One big curved horn is what makes it a rhinoceros beetle.
Step 5: Horn ridge
Inside the horn, draw one curved line from the bottom up toward the point, so the horn looks round.
Step 6: A long shell
Start on the chin at the left cheek. Draw a big tall egg hanging down, stopping at the right cheek.
Step 7: Shell lines
Under the head, draw a smile line across the shell. From its middle, draw a straight line to the bottom.
Step 8: Front legs
Under the smile line, draw a bent leg on each side: fat thigh up, thin shin down to a hook.
Step 9: Middle legs
A thumb lower, draw a bent leg on each side: fat thigh straight out, thin shin down to a hook.
Step 10: Back legs
Low on the shell, draw a bent leg on each side: fat thigh down, thin shin to a hook.
Step 11: Pink cheeks, red mouth
Colour the round cheeks pink and the open mouth red.
Step 12: Brown beetle
Colour the head and legs brown around the face, leaving the eyes white. Colour the shell and horn dark brown.
