How to Draw a Chuckwalla
Draw a chuckwalla in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: flat body and head.
Step 1: Flat body and head
Start under the hips. Draw the flat tummy, baggy throat, blunt nose and back, stopping above the start.
Tip A chuckwalla is fat but flat, like a squashed sausage.
Step 2: Thick blunt tail
From the end of the back, draw a thick tail to a blunt tip, then back to the tummy.
Tip Make it wide where it leaves the body.
Step 3: The big eye
In the head, above the middle, draw 1 big round eye. Add a black pupil and a white shine.
Step 4: Grin and nostril
Start at the front of the nose. Draw a long grin back under the eye, curling up. Dot a nostril.
Step 5: Neck folds
Behind the head, draw 2 soft folds, each starting on the throat line and curving up.
Tip A chuckwalla puffs up its baggy throat to jam itself into rock cracks.
Step 6: Front leg
On the chest, draw a fat leg: a round top, the elbow out behind, 3 toes pointing forward.
Tip Rub out the tummy line inside the leg.
Step 7: Back leg
On the hips, draw a fat leg: a round top, the knee out in front, 3 toes pointing back.
Tip Rub out the tummy and tail lines inside the leg.
Step 8: The boulder
Draw a wide, round-topped boulder under the tummy, feet and tail. Add a ground line.
Step 9: Speckles
Dot 5 small oval speckles along the back, no 2 the same.
Step 10: Colour it tan
Colour the whole chuckwalla tan, around the speckles. Leave the eye white.
Step 11: Grey boulder
Colour the boulder grey, around the chuckwalla.
Step 12: Slate speckles
Colour the 5 speckles dark slate grey. Your chuckwalla is done!
