How to Draw a Louisiana Map

Draw a louisiana map in 14 easy steps, about 11 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the top edge.

Step 1: The top edge
Start near the top left. Draw a straight line to the right. Stop past the middle.
Tip Louisiana looks like a boot. This is the top of the boot.
Step 2: The big river
Carry on from the right end. Wiggle a line down, then slant down to the left. Stop there.
Tip This wiggly side is a huge river, the Mississippi.
Step 3: The flat step
Carry on from there. Draw a straight line to the right. Stop near the edge of your paper.
Tip This step is the top of the boot's foot.
Step 4: Down again
Carry on from there. Wiggle a short line down. Stop at a corner.
Step 5: The toe
Carry on from the corner. Draw a bumpy coast down to the right. End with a blunt toe.
Tip The toe is where the big river runs out into the sea.
Step 6: Under the toe
From the toe, draw a bumpy coast back to the left with 2 dips. Stop at a corner.
Step 7: The bottom coast
Carry on from the corner. Curve up over a bay, then go left along the coast. Stop there.
Step 8: Up the left
Carry on from there. Wiggle a line up, leaning left at the end. Stop below your top line.
Tip This side is a river too.
Step 9: Close the map
Carry on from there. Draw a straight line up. Join the start of your top line.
Step 10: The lake
In the toe of the boot, under the flat step, draw an oval lake lying on its side.
Step 11: The capital star
Left of the lake, draw a star for the capital city, Baton Rouge.
Tip On a map, a star shows the capital city.
Step 12: Blue lake
Go over your lines. Colour the lake light blue.
Step 13: Green land
Colour all of the land green, around the lake and the star.
Step 14: Red star
Colour the star red. Your map of Louisiana is done!
