How to Draw a Raft
Draw a raft in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: six logs.
Step 1: Six logs
Below the middle of your paper draw a row of 6 circles the same size, touching like coins.
Tip Keep the circles level. Their bottoms will sit in the water.
Step 2: Log ends
In the middle of each log draw a little swirl for the rings in the wood.
Step 3: The deck
Across the top of the logs draw one long thin plank, poking out past the first and last log.
Step 4: The mast
In the middle of the deck draw a tall post up almost to the top. Put a ball on top.
Step 5: Yard and sail
High on the mast draw a bar 3 logs wide. Hang a square sail from it, curved at the bottom.
Tip The sail hides the mast behind it.
Step 6: A patch
On the sail draw a square patch. Inside it, draw 2 short stitch dashes along each side.
Step 7: The flag
Start on the mast under the ball. Draw a fat flag streaming left to a point, back to the mast.
Step 8: Rope lashings
Near each end of the deck draw 2 short crossed lines over the plank, like an X.
Step 9: Waves
Start at the left edge. Draw hill bumps to the right edge over the log bottoms. Add a lower row.
Step 10: The sun
In the top right corner draw a circle for the sun with 8 short rays all around.
Step 11: Cream sail, yellow sun
Colour the sail cream, but not the patch. Colour the sun yellow.
Step 12: Tan deck, blue sea
Colour the deck and the bar on top of the sail tan. Colour the sea blue to the bottom.
Step 13: Red flag, brown logs
Colour the flag and the patch red. Colour the logs, the mast and the ball brown.
