How to Draw a Radio Telescope Dish
Draw a radio telescope dish in 11 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the giant dish rim.
Step 1: The giant dish rim
High on your paper draw a BIG tilted oval, leaning up to the right, as wide as half the paper.
Tip A radio telescope is a huge bowl pointed at the sky.
Step 2: The bowl
Start at the rim's lower left end. Draw a deep curve under the rim, up to its upper right end.
Step 3: A friendly face
On the bowl under the rim, draw 2 big egg eyes with dots and shines, and a smile.
Step 4: Arms and receiver
From the front edge of the rim, draw 3 thin arms up across the dish to a small round receiver.
Step 5: Stand and tower
Under the bowl draw a small triangle, then a tower widening down to the ground, with an X brace inside.
Step 6: Ground and hut
Draw the ground line from edge to edge. Add a small hut with a door on the right.
Step 7: Night sky
Draw 3 big stars round the dish and a fat banana moon in the top right corner.
Step 8: Yellow stars, pink cheeks
Go over your lines, then colour the stars and moon yellow, and 2 pink cheeks beside the smile.
Step 9: Tan hut, white dish
Colour the hut tan and the inside of the dish white. Leave the eyes white.
Step 10: Grey bowl and receiver
Colour the outside of the bowl grey around the face, and the receiver grey.
Step 11: Slate tower
Colour the stand and the tower slate grey. Your radio telescope is listening to the stars!

Your finished drawing
Follow the steps above and this is where you end up: a radio telescope dish, drawn by you.
