How to Draw a Flower

11 steps · Medium · about 8 min

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the middle.

Print

  1. Step 1: The middle

Near the top of your paper, draw a big round circle for the middle, as big as an orange.

Tip The face goes on it, so make it big.

  2. Step 2: Eyes, smile, cheeks

Draw 2 big eyes with black dots, one eye apart. Add a wide U smile and 2 oval cheeks.

  3. Step 3: Four petals

Start on the circle. Draw a plump petal out and back to the circle. Draw 4, like a plus sign.

  4. Step 4: Four more petals

In each of the 4 gaps, start on the circle and draw the same petal out and back to it.

Tip Leave a sliver of circle showing between neighbours.

  5. Step 5: The stem

Start under the bottom petal. Draw 2 gently bowing stem lines a finger apart, down to the ground.

Tip Let it bow a little, like a real stalk.

  6. Step 6: Two leaves

A thumb below the petals, draw a fat leaf on each side of the stem, tips pointing out and up.

  7. Step 7: Leaf veins

From the stem, draw one curved vein out along each leaf, stopping just short of the tip.

  8. Step 8: The ground

Draw a long straight ground line across the bottom of the paper, through the bottom of the stem.

  9. Step 9: Grass

A little way out from each side of the stem, flick 2 grass blades up from the ground line.

  10. Step 10: Yellow middle

Colour the middle of the flower yellow, around the eyes and cheeks. Leave the eyes white.

  11. Step 11: Pink petals, green stem

Colour the 8 petals and both cheeks pink. Colour the stem and both leaves green.
