How to Draw a Python
Draw a python in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: round head.
Step 1: Round head
In the top left, draw a big round head like an egg lying down. Leave room for the long body.
Tip A snake's head is big: about a third as tall as the snake.
Step 2: Two big eyes
In the middle of the head, draw 2 big egg eyes. Colour big black dots, leaving white shines.
Step 3: Nostrils and smile
Dot 2 nostrils under the eyes. Start under the left eye and draw a wide smile to the right eye.
Step 4: Forked tongue
From the middle of the smile, draw a short tongue just past the chin. Split the end into 2 points.
Tip The tongue should not touch the body.
Step 5: Long body
Start at the right cheek. Loop a long body round to a point, then back up beside the tongue.
Tip Keep the neck a little narrower than the head.
Step 6: Belly line
Start under the chin. Draw a belly line down the inside of the neck, joining the edge at the bend.
Step 7: The ground
Start at the left edge under the snake. Draw a straight ground line across to the right edge.
Step 8: Grass tuft
Near the right end of the ground, draw 3 short grass blades growing up from the line.
Step 9: Long blotches
Along the top of the body, draw a row of 6 long oval blotches, shrinking as the body thins.
Tip Python blotches are long and low, like stretched eggs.
Step 10: Cream belly
Colour the belly strip cream.
Step 11: Tan python
Go over your lines. Colour the head and body tan, going around the belly and blotches. Leave the eyes white.
Step 12: Blotches and tongue
Colour the blotches brown and the tongue red, and your python is done.
