How to Draw a Pheasant
Draw a pheasant in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: round head.
Step 1: Round head
Near the top left, draw a big round head with a smooth round top and a tiny chin bump.
Tip Leave room on the right and underneath for the body.
Step 2: Short beak
Start on the head's front. Draw a short fat triangle beak and stop on the head. Add a mouth line.
Step 3: Eye and face patch
Behind the beak, draw a round eye with a black dot. Draw a round patch around it for the face.
Step 4: Plump body
Start behind the head. Draw a long egg body out to the right and round under. Stop under the beak.
Tip Make it longer than tall, like an egg lying down.
Step 5: Long pointed tail
At the back end of the body, draw a long pointed wedge tail, nearly to the edge. Add 3 bars.
Tip A pheasant's tail is very long and pointed.
Step 6: Wing and collar
Start under the head. Draw a teardrop wing ending at the tail. Add a collar curve under the chin.
Step 7: Front leg and toes
Start on the tummy. Draw a thin leg down to 3 flat toes. Go back up to the tummy.
Step 8: Back leg and toes
Start on the tummy, a hand behind the first leg. Draw a second leg and toes. Stop on the tummy.
Step 9: Ground and grass
From the left edge, draw a ground line under the toes to the right edge. Add grass at each end.
Step 10: Tan legs, copper body
Colour the beak, legs and toes tan. Colour the body copper orange, not the wing. Leave the collar white.
Step 11: Red patch, green head
Colour the face patch red, leaving the eye white. Colour the head green, around the patch.
Step 12: Brown wing and tail
Go over your lines, then colour the wing and the long tail brown.
