How to Draw an Afghan Hound
Draw an Afghan hound in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the head.
Step 1: The head
Near the top of your paper, draw a tall egg for the head, narrow at the bottom for the snout.
Tip Leave room underneath for the body and legs.
Step 2: Long silky hair
From each side of the head, draw a wavy curtain of hair almost to the ground. Add a bumpy topknot.
Tip The hair hangs nearly to the floor, like a long coat.
Step 3: Two big eyes
Above the middle of the head, draw 2 eggy eyes with a gap between. Add black dots with shines.
Step 4: Long snout
From the chin, draw a tall thin upside-down U between the eyes, back to the chin. Add a black nose.
Tip An Afghan has a long fine nose, slim and pointed.
Step 5: Smile and tongue
From the nose, draw a short line down, ending in a little w smile. Hang a small tongue from it.
Step 6: The bottom
Start on the left hair hem. Draw a gently sagging line across the bottom, stopping at the right hem.
Step 7: Chest hair
Across the chest, between the 2 hair curtains, draw a row of soft wavy bumps hanging down.
Step 8: Front legs
Start on the chest hair. Draw each front leg down to a round paw and back up. Add 2 toes.
Step 9: Back paws and tail
Draw a hill paw peeking out under each curtain, beside the leg. Add a thin curly tail on the right.
Step 10: The ground
Draw a long ground line across under the paws and the hair.
Step 11: Colour the coat cream
Colour the head, snout, body, legs, paws and tail with a cream crayon. Leave the eyes white.
Step 12: Sand hair and topknot
Colour the long hair curtains and the topknot sand, pressing softly.
Step 13: Pink tongue
Colour the tongue pink.
