How to Draw a Puppeteer Stage
Draw a puppeteer stage in 13 steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the head.
Step 1: The head
Above the middle of your paper draw an egg head, narrower at the chin. Leave room above and below.
Step 2: The face
Below the middle of the head draw 2 small oval eyes with black dots, a tiny nose and a smile.
Step 3: Hair and fringe
Start on the left above the eyes. Draw hair over the top, down to the right, then a fringe across.
Step 4: Neck and T-shirt
Draw 2 neck lines. From the left one draw a T-shirt round to the right one, both sleeves pointing up.
Step 5: Arms
From each raised sleeve draw an arm out to the elbow, then straight up beside the head to the wrist.
Tip Keep the puppets a hand's width from the head, clear of the face.
Step 6: Two hand puppets
On each wrist draw a puppet: a cone body over the wrist and a round smiling head on top.
Step 7: Puppet booth
Behind everything draw the booth: a tall box from near the top of the page down near the bottom.
Step 8: Valance, curtains, ledge
Draw a frilly band along the booth top. Wiggle a curtain down each side from it, ending at a ledge.
Tip The curtains hang at the sides, clear of the arms and puppets.
Step 9: Shorts, legs, ground
From the hem's left end draw shorts round to its right end. Add 2 legs, sneakers and a ground line.
Step 10: Peach skin, pink cheeks
Colour the face, neck, arms and legs peach, with a pink circle on each cheek. Leave the eyes white.
Step 11: Yellow shirt, red curtains
Colour the T-shirt yellow. Colour the left puppet, the curtains and the frilly band red.
Step 12: Green puppet, brown hair
Colour the right puppet green and the hair brown.
Step 13: Blue shorts, purple booth
Colour the shorts blue and the booth purple around the kid and curtains. Leave the puppet heads and sneakers white.
