How to Draw a Portuguese Man o’ War
Draw a Portuguese man o’ war in 11 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the float.
Step 1: The float
Start low at the left. Draw a long balloon over a big round right end. Stop level with the start.
Tip It is a bubble of gas floating on the water like a little boat.
Step 2: Crinkled sail
From the left shoulder draw a low crinkly ridge along the top. Stop on top of the round end.
Step 3: 2 big eyes
On the taller right half draw 2 egg eyes, an eye apart, each with a black dot in the middle.
Step 4: Smile and cheeks
Under the eyes draw a U smile turning up at the ends. Add a small oval cheek beside each end.
Step 5: Water line
Draw one long gently wavy line right across the paper through the bottom of the float, edge to edge.
Step 6: Long tentacles
From under the float draw 7 long thin wavy lines trailing down into the water, the middle ones longest.
Tip The tentacles trail far below, much longer than the float.
Step 7: One thick tentacle
Among the thin ones draw one thick wavy ribbon tentacle hanging almost to the bottom, thinner at its rounded tip.
Step 8: Bubbles
In the water left of the tentacles draw 3 round bubbles rising in a slanted line: small, bigger, biggest.
Step 9: Cheeks and water
Colour the cheeks peach, and the water light blue around the thick tentacle. Leave the bubbles white.
Step 10: Colour the float blue
Colour the whole float blue around the cheeks, leaving the eyes white.
Step 11: Purple sail and tentacle
Colour the crinkled sail and the thick tentacle purple. Go over your lines. Done!
