How to Draw a Baby Hummingbird
Draw a baby hummingbird in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: round head.
Step 1: Round head
Above the middle of your paper draw a big round head, about as big as your fist.
Tip A baby bird's head is big. Leave room below for the nest.
Step 2: Short beak
On the left of the head draw a short thin beak pointing left, with a soft round tip.
Tip A baby's beak is much shorter than a grown hummingbird's.
Step 3: Big eye
Next to the beak draw one huge round eye with a big black dot and 2 white shines.
Step 4: Fluffy tuft
On top of the head draw 3 soft round bumps of baby fluff.
Tip The middle bump is the tallest.
Step 5: Cup nest
A little below the head draw a wide cup: a rim that dips in the middle and a round bowl.
Tip The nest is wider than the head.
Step 6: Plump body
Behind the head draw a round back down into the nest. Under the chin add a short chest line.
Tip Most of the body hides inside the nest, feet and all.
Step 7: Stubby wing
On the side of the body draw one small leaf-shaped wing with 2 round bumps underneath.
Tip Baby wings are short and stubby.
Step 8: Stubby tail
Behind the body draw 3 short round tail feathers fanning out over the edge of the nest.
Step 9: Thin twig
Under the nest draw a long thin twig from side to side, with one little side twig.
Tip The nest sits on the twig.
Step 10: Nest straws
Start on the edge of the nest. Draw 3 short curved straw lines and stop inside the nest.
Step 11: Tan and brown
Colour the nest tan. Colour the twig and its little side twig brown.
Step 12: Green chick
Colour the head, the fluffy tuft and the body green, around the wing. Leave the eye white.
Step 13: Teal and grey
Colour the wing and the 3 tail feathers teal, and the beak dark grey. Your baby hummingbird is done!
