How to Draw a Porcupine
Draw a porcupine in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: pointy face.
Step 1: Pointy face
On the left, draw a big sideways teardrop face: round at the back, with a pointy snout down left.
Tip Leave room on the right for the spiky back.
Step 2: Nose, smile and eye
Draw a black ball nose on the snout tip and a short smile under it. Add a big round eye.
Step 3: Ear and first quills
Start above the eye. Draw a curve up and back, stopping over the back. Add 4 quills and an ear.
Step 4: Round back and tummy
Start where the curve stopped. Draw a big dome over the back, round the bottom, forward to meet the chin.
Tip The coat is like a cape: draw its curved bottom edge under the dome.
Step 5: Long quills
Start after the fourth quill. Keep drawing long pointy quills leaning back, stopping at the coat edge.
Tip Long and thin like needles, all leaning towards the back.
Step 6: Near legs
Start under the chin. Draw a chunky leg down to a mitten paw and back up. Same at the back.
Tip Short legs, wide at the top and thinner at the ankle. The front leg sits right under the head.
Step 7: Far legs
Behind each leg, draw the far leg peeking out, from the tummy down to a flat paw.
Step 8: Toes and ground
Give each near paw 2 short toe lines. Draw one long ground line under all 4 paws, edge to edge.
Step 9: Sandy quills
Colour all the long quills a light sandy colour.
Step 10: Pink ear and cheek
Colour the little ear pink, and a pink blush on the cheek. Leave the eye white.
Step 11: Tan face and legs
Colour the face, tummy and near legs tan, around the pink cheek.
Step 12: Brown coat and legs
Colour the coat and the far legs brown. Your porcupine is done!
