How to Draw a Trumpetfish
Draw a trumpetfish in 11 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: long slim body.
Step 1: Long slim body
From the top right, draw a long slim fish sloping down to a tube snout, and back to the top.
Tip Make it deepest at the head, just before the snout. Leave the top end open for the tail.
Step 2: Eye and trumpet mouth
In the head, draw a big round eye with a black dot. Add a tiny oval mouth on the snout.
Step 3: Small fan tail
From the open end, draw a fan tail with 2 points and a soft dip, ending on the other side.
Tip No line across the end: the tail grows straight out of the body.
Step 4: Back and tummy fins
Near the tail, draw a low fin on the back, leaning to the tail. Draw the same under the tummy.
Tip The fins sit far back, opposite each other, leaving the long body bare.
Step 5: Gill and side fin
Behind the head, draw a gill curve across the body. Start and end a small fan fin on it.
Tip The fan opens toward the tail.
Step 6: Bubbles
Above the snout, draw 3 bubbles floating up: small, bigger, biggest at the top.
Step 7: Sandy floor
Draw the sandy floor as one long gently wavy line across the bottom of the paper.
Step 8: Tall seaweed
Stand up 3 tall wiggly seaweed leaves on the sand, one left and 2 right, each with a pointed tip.
Tip Leave clear water all round the trumpetfish.
Step 9: Colour it yellow
Colour the body and snout yellow, leaving the eye white and skipping the side fin. Colour the mouth pink.
Step 10: Sand and bubbles
Colour the floor under the sand line sandy. Colour the bubbles light blue.
Step 11: Orange fins, green seaweed
Colour the tail and all the fins orange, and the seaweed green. Go over your lines, and you're done!
