How to Draw a Dunkleosteus
Draw a dunkleosteus in 11 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: helmet head.
Step 1: Helmet head
Draw a big blunt head with a wide V mouth. Start at the top, go round the front, stop underneath.
Tip The front is blunt like a helmet, not pointy.
Step 2: Big eye
Above the mouth, draw one big round eye with a black dot and a shine. Draw a ring round it.
Step 3: Bony blade jaws
Draw a big pointy blade under the top jaw, starting and stopping on the jaw. Add a smaller one below.
Tip Dunkleosteus had no teeth: its jaw bones were sharp blades.
Step 4: Back and tummy
Start at the top of the head and curve the back. Curve the tummy from underneath. Stop at a gap.
Step 5: Shark tail
Start at the back. Draw a long top point, a notch and a shorter point. Stop at the tummy.
Step 6: Armour plates
Behind the eye, draw a bold curve from the back down to the tummy. Draw a second curve behind it.
Tip Two helmet plates: one on the head, one behind it.
Step 7: Fins
On the back draw a fin, starting and stopping on the back. Under the tummy draw a paddle fin.
Step 8: Bubbles
By the head, draw 3 round bubbles floating up, each one smaller than the last.
Step 9: Cream blades, blue bubbles
Go over your lines. Colour the 2 bony blades cream and the 3 bubbles light blue.
Step 10: Tan body
Colour the body behind the second curve tan. Colour the tail and both fins tan too.
Step 11: Grey armour
Colour the head and the armour plate behind it dark grey. Leave the eye white.
