How to Draw a Blue-Footed Booby
Draw a blue-footed booby in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: round head.
Step 1: Round head
Near the top left draw a big round head, a little wider than tall. Leave room under it.
Step 2: Long dagger beak
Start on the front of the head. Draw a long pointy beak out left, back to the chin.
Step 3: One big eye
Behind the beak draw a big round eye. Fill it with a black dot, leaving a white shine.
Step 4: Plump body
From the back of the head draw a curve down to the tail, round a belly, up to the chin.
Tip The body is narrower than the head, so the head stays big.
Step 5: Pointy tail
From the back of the body draw a pointy tail sloping down and back. Add 2 feather lines.
Step 6: Folded wing
Under the head draw a big teardrop lying along the side, pointy at the tail. Add 2 feather lines.
Step 7: Front leg and foot
Under the tummy draw a short leg getting thinner, then a big webbed foot with 3 round toes.
Step 8: Back leg and foot
A little further back draw the other leg and foot. Its toes tuck behind the first leg.
Step 9: Rocky ground
Under the feet draw one straight ground line across the page. Add a little round rock at each end.
Step 10: Grey beak and rocks
Leave the head, body and eye white like the paper. Colour the dagger beak and both rocks grey.
Step 11: Brown wing and tail
Colour the wing and the pointy tail brown.
Step 12: Bright blue feet
Colour both big feet bright blue, legs and all. That is how the booby got its name!
