How to Draw a Poppy Field
Draw a poppy field in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: first poppy.
Step 1: First poppy
Left of the middle, above the middle, draw a poppy head: 4 big round petals like a 4-leaf clover.
Tip Make it about as big as a walnut.
Step 2: Three more poppies
Draw 3 more poppy heads across the paper: one on the left, one in the middle, one on the right.
Step 3: Black middles
In the middle of each big poppy colour a small round black dot.
Step 4: Stems
From under each big poppy draw a gently bending stalk down near the bottom, thin at the top, wider below.
Step 5: A leaf each
Halfway down each stem draw a thin pointed leaf from the stem out to a point and back.
Step 6: Far ridge
Behind the stalks draw a long gentle ridge line, starting and stopping near the edges.
Step 7: Little poppies far away
Above the ridge draw 3 little poppies between the big ones. From each a stem goes down to the ridge.
Step 8: Hill and grass
Draw a hill line through the stalk ends, starting and stopping near the edges. Add 2 grass tufts.
Step 9: The sun
In the top right corner draw a round sun with 8 short rays round it.
Step 10: Yellow sun, green meadow
Colour the sun yellow. Colour the meadow light green from the ridge to the hill line, around the stalks.
Step 11: Stalks and front grass
Colour the stalks, the leaves and the grass under the hill line dark green.
Step 12: Red poppies
Colour every poppy head red, round the black dots. Your poppy field is done!
