How to Draw Northern Lights
Draw northern lights in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: top curtain edge.
Step 1: Top curtain edge
High up, start near the left side. Draw a long wavy line across. Stop near the right side.
Step 2: Ribbon of light
From the right end, draw a second wavy line back underneath. Stop at the left end to close the ribbon.
Step 3: Rays of light
From the top edge draw 7 short lines hanging down inside the ribbon, long and short in turn.
Step 4: Second curtain
Lower down, draw a smaller wavy ribbon the same way. Hang 5 short lines from its top edge.
Step 5: Big stars
Draw 5 little stars: 2 high in the corners and 3 low down in the middle.
Step 6: Twinkles
In the gaps draw 7 tiny twinkles. Each one is a little diamond with 4 points.
Step 7: Snowy hill
Near the bottom, start at the left edge. Draw one long soft hill across. Stop at the right edge.
Step 8: Two pine trees
On each side of the hill draw a pine tree: zigzag up to a point, back down, then a trunk.
Step 9: Yellow stars
Colour the 5 stars and all the tiny twinkles yellow.
Step 10: Green and teal light
Colour the big ribbon of light green. Colour the smaller ribbon teal.
Step 11: Trees
Colour the 2 pine trees green and their trunks brown.
Step 12: Navy night
Colour everything above the hill navy, around the lights, stars and trees. Leave the hill white, like snow.
