How to Draw Ocean Waves
Draw ocean waves in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: big front waves.
Step 1: Big front waves
Start low on the left. Draw 2 big waves: slide up, pointy tip, scoop down. Stop at the right edge.
Tip Every wave leans the same way, like a row of shark fins.
Step 2: Middle waves
Above them, start on the left and draw 3 smaller waves the same way. Stop at the right edge.
Step 3: Far waves
Higher up, start on the left and draw 4 little far away waves. Stop at the right edge.
Step 4: Foam on top
Under each big tip, draw 3 bumps from the front of the wave to its back.
Step 5: More foam
Draw 2 little bumps the same way under every other tip.
Step 6: Ripples
On the water draw 4 short wiggly lines, each one clear of the waves.
Step 7: The sun
In the sky on the left draw a round sun with 8 short rays around it.
Step 8: A cloud
In the sky on the right draw a cloud: 3 bumps over the top and a flat bottom.
Step 9: Yellow sun
Go over your lines, then colour the sun yellow. Leave the cloud and the foam white.
Step 10: Light blue far waves
Colour the far waves light blue, down to the middle waves and around their foam.
Step 11: Blue middle waves
Colour the middle waves a stronger blue, down to the big waves and around the foam.
Step 12: Dark blue front
Colour the big front waves dark blue, right to the bottom, around the foam. Your ocean is done!
