How to Draw a Ponytail
Draw a ponytail in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the head.
Step 1: The head
Near the top of your paper draw a big egg for the head, a little narrower at the chin.
Tip Make it big: the hair needs room on top.
Step 2: 2 ears
Start on the side of the head, below the middle. Draw a C ear and stop on the head.
Step 3: Big eyes
Below the middle of the head draw 2 tall oval eyes, one eye apart. Add black dots.
Step 4: Nose, smile and brows
Between the eyes draw a tiny U nose. Under it draw a wide smile with curled ends. Add 2 eyebrows.
Step 5: Fringe
Start on the left of the head. Draw the fringe across, dipping in the middle. Stop on the right.
Step 6: Top of the hair
Start at the left end of the fringe. Draw a rainbow round the head and stop at the right end.
Tip The hair is pulled back tight, so it sits close to the head.
Step 7: The ponytail
Start on the hair above the right ear. Swoop down to a point and back up to the hair.
Step 8: Hair tie
Where the ponytail leaves the head draw a small band across it for the hair tie.
Step 9: Strands
Inside the ponytail draw 2 long gentle curves. Start near the top and stop before the point.
Step 10: Neck and shirt
Under the chin draw 2 short neck lines. From each draw a shoulder sloping down. Add a U collar.
Step 11: Peach skin, pink cheeks
Colour the face, ears and neck peach, with a pink circle on each cheek. Leave the eyes white.
Step 12: Ginger hair, purple tie
Colour the hair and the ponytail ginger, and the hair tie purple.
Step 13: Green shirt
Colour the shirt green, around the peach neck. Your ponytail kid is done!
