How to Draw a Pony

Step 1: The head

Near the top left draw a sideways head like a fat peanut: a big round cheek and a smaller nose.

Tip The nose end points down to the left. Leave room on the right.

Step 2: Eye and nose

Draw 1 big eye. From the nose top, curve a line down to the chin. Add a nostril and smile.

Tip Give the eye a black dot and a white shine. We see the side, so only 1 eye.

Step 3: Ears and forelock

On top of the head draw 2 pointy ears standing up. Add a fluffy forelock with 2 round bumps.

Tip Draw a smaller leaf inside the front ear. The back ear peeks out behind it.

Step 4: The neck

From behind the ear, draw the back line down to the middle. Start a longer front line under the cheek.

Tip A pony's neck is short and thick. Stop the front line a bit lower than the back line.

Step 5: The mane

Start behind the ears. Draw a row of fat, round hair locks along the neck, down to the shoulders.

Tip Each lock tucks behind the one above, like roof tiles.

Step 6: The body

From the neck draw a big bean body: back, round bottom, then the tummy up to the chest.

Tip A pony is chunky, so make the body deep.

Step 7: Two legs

Draw a low ground line. Add a short front leg under the chest and a back leg under the bottom.

Tip Each hoof is a little doorstop on the ground. The back leg bends.

Step 8: The far legs

Draw 2 more short legs peeking out from behind: one by the front leg, one by the back leg.

Tip Only draw the parts you can see.

Step 9: The tail

From the top of the bottom draw a bushy tail down to a soft point. Add 2 hair lines inside.

Tip Thick where it grows from the bottom, pointed at the tip.

Step 10: Colour it cream

Go over your lines. Colour the head, ears, neck, body and legs cream, but not the nose or ear insides.

Tip Leave the eye white.

Step 11: Peach and tan

Colour the nose patch and the ear insides peach. Colour the forelock, mane and tail tan.

Step 12: Grey hooves

Colour the 4 hooves slate grey.
