How to Draw the Planets in Order
Draw the planets in order in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the sun.
Step 1: The sun
On the left, halfway down, draw a round sun as big as a plum, with 8 short rays round it.
Step 2: A sunny face
On the sun draw 2 egg eyes with small black dots and shines, and a small U smile under them.
Step 3: The four small planets
Right of the rays draw 4 small planets in a wave: tiny Mercury high, Venus low, Earth high, Mars low.
Tip Up, down, up, down: the wave lets all 8 planets fit on the page.
Step 4: Big Jupiter
Next in line, above the middle, draw the biggest planet of all, Jupiter: a circle as big as a plum.
Step 5: Saturn and its ring
Lower right, draw round Saturn. From its left, draw a wide flat ring across the front, stopping at each edge.
Tip Saturn is a little smaller than Jupiter. The ring goes behind too.
Step 6: Uranus and Neptune
Far right, draw Uranus high, Neptune low. Give Uranus a tall ring crossing in front, from top down to bottom.
Step 7: Planet markings
Add 2 bands and a spot on Jupiter, and a curvy line on Venus and Neptune.
Step 8: Stars and sparkles
In the empty sky draw 2 fat 5-point stars, top and bottom, and 2 little 4-point sparkles.
Step 9: Saturn's sandy ring
Colour Saturn's ring sand yellow, the front part and the back part.
Step 10: Grey Mercury, tan Venus
Colour tiny Mercury grey and Venus tan.
Step 11: Yellow sun, orange giants
Colour the sun, stars and sparkles yellow, Jupiter orange, and Saturn orange around its ring. Leave the eyes white.
Step 12: Teal Uranus, green lands
Colour Uranus teal, and colour 2 wiggly green lands on Earth, away from its edge.
Step 13: Blue Earth, red Mars
Colour Earth blue around the green lands, Neptune blue and Mars red. Your planets are all in order!
