How to Draw a Pixel Character
Draw a pixel character in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: blocky head.
Step 1: Blocky head
Draw a big blocky head. Step the corners in so it looks round: 2 steps on top, 1 below.
Tip Squared paper helps: every line follows the squares, only up, down and across.
Step 2: Fringe
Start high on the left side. Step in and up, go across, step down, stop on the right side.
Step 3: Square eyes
Under the fringe, draw 2 big square eyes. Colour a black square in each, leaving a white corner.
Step 4: Blocky smile
Between the eyes and the chin, start a small smile: draw down, across and up, then stop.
Step 5: Tunic
From the chin, step out and draw down, step in, go across, climb the same way up to the chin.
Tip Make the tunic as wide as the head but only half as tall.
Step 6: Box arms
Below each shoulder, start a thin box arm: out, down and back in to the tunic. Add a hand line.
Step 7: Chest square
In the middle of the chest, draw 1 small square.
Step 8: Box legs
From the bottom of the tunic, draw 2 box legs straight down, with a gap between. Stop above the floor.
Step 9: Boots
Under each leg, draw a flat box boot. Let it stick out 1 square past the outside of the leg.
Step 10: Floor line
Under the boots, draw a straight floor line, starting left of the arms and stopping right of them.
Step 11: Yellow and peach
Go over your lines. Colour the chest square yellow. Colour the face and 2 hands peach. Leave the eyes white.
Step 12: Ginger and teal
Colour the hair ginger, down to the fringe line. Colour the 2 legs teal.
Step 13: Purple and brown
Colour the tunic and sleeves purple, around the yellow square. Colour the boots brown. Your blocky hero is done!
