How to Draw a Capacitor
Draw a capacitor in 11 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the top.
Step 1: The top
Near the top of your paper draw a wide flat oval for the top of the can.
Tip Leave lots of room below for the can and its legs.
Step 2: The can
Start at the oval's left end. Go straight down, round a curved bottom and up to the right end.
Tip The bottom curves like the front of the oval.
Step 3: Two big eyes
Above the middle, a little to the left, draw 2 big round eyes. Colour a black dot in each.
Tip Leave a tiny white shine in each dot. The right side of the can is kept for a stripe.
Step 4: Smile and cheeks
Under the eyes draw a U smile. Draw a small oval cheek beside each end.
Step 5: Two wire legs
From the bottom of the can draw 2 long thin wire legs straight down. End both at the same height.
Tip Each leg is a long thin U that starts and ends on the can.
Step 6: The stripe
Start on the front of the oval, near the right. Draw a straight line down to the bottom curve.
Step 7: Minus signs
Inside the stripe draw 3 short dashes, one under the other.
Tip The stripe of minus signs shows which leg is the minus one.
Step 8: A groove
Near the bottom, start on the left side. Draw a smile curve across and stop on the right side.
Step 9: The ground
Draw a ground line under the legs, poking out on both sides.
Step 10: Grey and pink
Colour the top, the stripe and both wire legs grey. Colour the cheeks pink.
Step 11: Blue can
Go over your lines. Colour the rest of the can blue, around the face. Leave the eyes white.

Your finished drawing
Follow the steps above and this is where you end up: a capacitor, drawn by you.
