How to Draw a Fire Hydrant
Draw a fire hydrant in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the barrel.
Step 1: The barrel
Draw a tall box in the middle, almost twice as tall as wide. Leave room under it for the base.
Step 2: Dome and bolt
Start past the top-left corner, draw a rainbow, stop past the other corner. Add a bolt bump on top.
Step 3: Two big eyes
Above the middle of the barrel draw 2 big egg eyes. Add a big black dot with a white shine.
Step 4: Smile and cheeks
Under the eyes draw a wide U smile. Add a small oval cheek beside each end.
Step 5: The collar
Where the dome meets the barrel draw a flat band, a finger thick, sticking out a little on both sides.
Step 6: Two nozzles
Low on each side of the barrel draw a short box sticking out, then a taller box on its end.
Step 7: Chains
Start under each cap. Draw 3 small linked ovals drooping down and back up to the barrel.
Step 8: Base and bands
Under the barrel draw a wide flat base. Draw 2 lines close together across the barrel just above the base.
Step 9: Ground and grass
Draw a ground line under the base from edge to edge. Add a soft grass tuft on each side.
Step 10: Pink cheeks
Colour the 2 cheeks pink.
Step 11: Red hydrant
Colour the barrel, dome and base red. Leave the eyes white.
Step 12: Grey caps and collar
Colour the collar, the bolt and the nozzles grey. Your fire hydrant is finished!
