How to Draw a Pine Marten

14 steps · Medium · about 11 min

Draw a pine marten in 14 easy steps, about 11 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: big soft head.

Print

  1. Step 1: Big soft head

Near the top left draw a big soft head, wider than tall, with round cheeks and a flat top.

Tip Leave lots of room on the right for the long body.

  2. Step 2: Round ears

On each top corner of the head draw a round ear with a curve inside. The left one is smaller.

  3. Step 3: Big eyes

On the middle of the head, a little to the left, draw 2 big oval eyes with black dots.

Tip Leave a tiny white shine in each eye.

  4. Step 4: Snout and smile

Under the left eye draw a snout poking past the head. From its black nose, draw down into a w.

Tip Rub out the head line inside the snout.

  5. Step 5: Long back

Start on the head, level with the eyes. Draw a long low back, curl round the bottom and stop.

Tip The line dips down the neck, then runs almost flat.

  6. Step 6: Branch and front leg

Draw a long branch with 2 bark lines. From under the chin, draw a leg down to a paw.

Tip The paw sits flat on top of the branch.

  7. Step 7: Tummy and back leg

From the front leg draw the tummy. Then a round thigh down to a paw and up to the bottom.

Tip The back leg bends just above the paw.

  8. Step 8: Far legs

Under the tummy draw 2 more legs peeking out: one leaning back, one leaning forward.

Tip Only part of each far leg shows. All 4 paws sit on the branch.

  9. Step 9: Toes

On each big paw draw 2 short curved toe lines. Draw 1 on each small paw.

  10. Step 10: Bushy tail

Start on top of the bottom. Draw a fat bushy tail up to a round tip, and back down.

Tip The tail starts thin and gets fatter, like a bottle brush.

  11. Step 11: Cream bib

Start under the cheek. Draw a curve down the chest and back in to the front leg.

Tip A pine marten has a creamy bib under its chin.

  12. Step 12: Cream and peach

Colour the bib and the snout cream. Colour the inside of each ear peach.

  13. Step 13: Colour the branch

Colour the branch light brown, around the 4 paws.

  14. Step 14: Colour it brown

Colour the pine marten brown, around the bib, snout and ear middles. Leave the eyes white.
