How to Draw a Cockatoo
Draw a cockatoo in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: round head.
Step 1: Round head
Near the top left, draw a big round head, a little wider than tall.
Tip Leave room above it for the feathers.
Step 2: Tall top feathers
On top at the back of the head, draw 3 long curved feathers.
Tip Let the feather tips lean forward a little.
Step 3: Big hooked beak
From the forehead, hook a beak down to a point, back to the chin. Add a mouth line across it.
Tip Keep the beak short and fat.
Step 4: Big round eye
A finger behind the beak, draw a big round eye with a black dot and a white shine.
Step 5: Plump body
Start at the back of the head. Draw the back down, round a fat belly, and up to the chin.
Step 6: Fan tail
From the bottom of the back, draw a fan down, round the end, back to the tummy. Add 2 lines.
Step 7: Folded wing
Start under the back of the head. Draw a round shoulder, sweeping back to a point. Add 2 feather lines.
Step 8: The branch
A finger below the tummy, draw a long bendy branch across, thinner at the right end.
Step 9: Front foot
Under the front of the tummy, draw a short leg that narrows, with 2 chubby toes over the branch.
Tip Rub out the branch line inside the toes.
Step 10: Back foot
A thumb behind the first leg, draw a second short leg and 2 toes over the branch.
Step 11: Yellow top feathers
Colour the tall top feathers yellow. The rest of the cockatoo stays white, even the eye.
Step 12: Grey beak, brown branch
Colour the hooked beak, legs and toes dark grey. Then colour the branch brown around the toes.
