How to Draw a Pill Bug
Draw a pill bug in 11 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the head.
Step 1: The head
Above the middle of your paper, draw an egg lying on its side. Leave room below for the shell.
Step 2: Two feelers
Start on top of the head. Draw a short curve leaning out and stop. Add a ball on the end.
Step 3: Two big eyes
In the middle of the head, draw 2 big egg eyes. Add a black dot and a shine.
Step 4: Smile and cheeks
Start under the left eye. Draw a line across and a wide U back to the start. Add round cheeks.
Step 5: The long shell
Start left on the chin. Draw a long egg hanging down, wider than the head. Stop right on the chin.
Tip A pill bug is a little armoured loaf.
Step 6: Armour plates
Across the shell draw 5 gently curved lines, one under the other, from side to side.
Step 7: Front legs
Start high on the side of the shell. Draw a short bent leg and ball foot. Stop on the shell.
Step 8: Middle legs
Start lower on the shell's side. Draw a short bent leg out with a ball foot. Stop on the shell.
Step 9: Back legs
Start low on the shell. Draw a short bent leg down with a ball foot. Stop on the shell.
Tip Real pill bugs have 14 legs, but 6 is plenty!
Step 10: Grey shell, pink cheeks
Colour the whole shell grey and the round cheeks pink.
Step 11: Red mouth, dark head
Colour the mouth red. Colour the head, feeler balls and legs dark grey, around the eyes, mouth and cheeks.
Tip Leave the eyes white so they shine.
