How to Draw a West Highland Terrier
Draw a West Highland terrier in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: shaggy round head.
Step 1: Shaggy round head
Near the top, draw a big round head made of soft little bumps, almost half of the whole dog.
Tip A Westie's face is a round scruffy ball of white fur.
Step 2: Small pointy ears
On each top corner, draw a small pointy ear standing straight up, with a smaller triangle inside.
Tip Westie ears are small, pointed and always up.
Step 3: Two big eyes
On the middle of the head, draw 2 egg eyes, a gap apart, each with a black dot and shine.
Step 4: Snout and nose
Under the eyes, draw an oval snout. Add a triangle nose on top and colour it black, leaving a shine.
Step 5: Smile and tongue
From the nose, draw a line down to a w smile, then a little U tongue under it.
Step 6: Scruffy beard
Under the chin, draw a beard of 5 soft bumps. Start and stop on the bottom edge of the head.
Tip A Westie's beard hangs down over its collar.
Step 7: The body
From under each ear, draw a big C curve down and out, ending near the bottom. Join the ends across.
Step 8: Collar and tag
From the left body line, draw 2 sagging curves behind the beard, ending on the right. Hang a round tag.
Step 9: Scruffy front legs
From under the collar, draw 2 legs down to round paws below the body. Add ankle fur bumps and toes.
Step 10: Back paws and tail
Draw a hill paw at each bottom corner. On the right side, draw a short thick tail standing straight up.
Tip A Westie's tail is a little carrot that always points up.
Step 11: The ground
Draw the ground: a long line across under all 4 paws.
Step 12: Cream snout, pink ears
Colour the snout cream and the ear insides pink. Leave the fur and the eyes white.
Step 13: Pink tongue, red collar
Colour the tongue pink and the collar red.
