How to Draw a Petra
Draw a petra in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the rock cliff.
Step 1: The rock cliff
Start low on the left. Draw a giant bumpy rock up, across and down, stopping low on the right.
Tip The cliff is the whole background: the building is carved into it.
Step 2: Step and 4 columns
Low in the middle of the rock draw a flat step. On it draw 4 tall thin columns, spaced out.
Step 3: Beam and pointed top
Across the column tops draw a long flat beam. On the beam draw a wide triangle.
Step 4: The dark doorway
Between the 2 middle columns draw a tall box for the doorway, from halfway up down to the step.
Step 5: The round tower
Behind the triangle's point draw a tall box for the tower, with a cone and a tiny ball on top.
Step 6: 2 wings
Each side of the tower, draw a wall up from the triangle, slanting in to the cone. Add a window.
Step 7: Cracks in the rock
Draw a wavy crack line down the rock on each side of the building, well away from it.
Step 8: Ground and sand
Draw the ground line under the step from edge to edge. Add wavy sand and a bush each side.
Step 9: Pink rock
Colour the whole cliff peach pink, pressing softly. Go around the building and the bushes.
Step 10: Tan columns and step
Colour the step, columns, beam and triangle tan, a little darker than the rock.
Step 11: Tan tower and wings
Colour the tower, its cone, the tiny ball and the 2 wings tan too, around the windows.
Step 12: Dark doorway, green bushes
Colour the doorway and the 2 windows dark grey, like caves, and the bushes green. Your Petra is done!
