How to Draw a Peony
Draw a peony in 11 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: bud and cupped petals.
Step 1: Bud and cupped petals
Near the top draw a walnut-sized circle with a curved line inside. Round it draw 6 little cupped petals.
Step 2: Six wavy petals
Start on the small petals and draw a plump petal with a wavy top, back again. Draw 6 round them.
Step 3: Four outer petals
Draw 4 big ruffly petals down the right side, each starting and ending on the ring.
Step 4: Four more petals
Draw 4 more big ruffly petals down the left side, from the ring back to the ring.
Step 5: The stem
From under the flower draw a curved line down to near the bottom. Draw a second, wider at the bottom.
Step 6: Two leaves
A hand below the flower draw a fat leaf out left and back to the stem. Same on the right.
Step 7: Leaf veins
From the stem draw 1 gently curved vein line out along each leaf, stopping just short of the tip.
Step 8: Ground and grass
Start near the left edge and draw a soft ground line across, ending near the right edge. Add grass blades.
Step 9: Pink outer petals
Colour the 8 big outer petals pink, right to the edges.
Step 10: Pink middle
Colour the inner petals, the little cupped petals and the bud pink too, so the whole bloom is pink.
Step 11: Green stem and leaves
Colour the stem and both leaves leaf green. Go over your lines and your peony is done!
