How to Draw a Pattypan Squash

10 steps · Medium · about 8 min

Draw a pattypan squash in 10 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: dome and rim.

Print

  1. Step 1: Dome and rim

In the middle draw a flying saucer: a smooth shallow dome on top, and 5 soft round bumps underneath.

Tip A pattypan squash looks like a little flying saucer with a frilly edge.

  2. Step 2: The side

Start under the left end of the rim. Curve down, across the bottom, and stop under the right end.

  3. Step 3: A stem

Start on top of the dome. Draw a short stem: up, flat across, then down, and stop on the dome.

  4. Step 4: Flutes

From each dip between the bumps draw a curved line up the dome, stopping well before the stem.

  5. Step 5: A little one

Lower right, draw a smaller saucer with 4 bumps. Curve its side from one end, stopping at the other.

  6. Step 6: Its stem

Start on top of the little dome. Draw a tiny stem: up, flat across, down, and stop on the dome.

  7. Step 7: A shine

On the left of the big dome draw a short curved line for a shine, just inside the edge.

  8. Step 8: The ground

Draw a ground line under everything, from left to right, just touching the bottoms.

  9. Step 9: Yellow squash

Go over your lines, then colour both saucers and their sides yellow.

  10. Step 10: Green stems

Colour both stems green, and your pattypan squash is done!
