How to Draw a Mom and Kid

Draw a mom and kid in 15 steps, about 11 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: two heads.

Step 1: Two heads
Draw 2 egg heads: a big one top left for mom, a small one lower right for the girl.
Tip The kid is half as tall. Leave a gap between them for the hands.
Step 2: The mom's face
On the big head draw 2 round eyes, each with a lash flick. Add a U nose and a smile.
Step 3: The girl's face
On the small head draw 2 round eyes with black dots. Add a U nose and a smile.
Step 4: Mom's hair
Draw hair over the big head with a fringe. Add long hair from high on each side to the shoulder.
Step 5: Girl's hair and pigtails
Draw hair over the small head with a fringe. Add a fat round pigtail loop on each side.
Step 6: Necks and dresses
Draw a U neck under each chin. From each draw a dress with short sleeves, out to a wide hem.
Tip Draw 2 lines across each dress for a belt.
Step 7: Arms
From each sleeve draw an arm that bends a little and gets thinner. Inner arms reach into the gap.
Tip The 2 inner arms make a V pointing down between them.
Step 8: Holding hands
Draw a round mitten on each outer arm. In the gap draw mom's mitten, with the girl's peeking out below.
Step 9: Legs
Under the mom's hem draw 2 legs down, closer at the ankle. Same under the girl's hem, smaller.
Step 10: Shoes and ground
Under each leg draw a shoe, toe pointing out. Draw one long ground line under all the shoes.
Step 11: The mom's skin
Colour the mom's cheeks pink, then her face, neck, arms, hands and legs peach around them. Leave the eyes white.
Step 12: The girl's skin
Colour the girl's cheeks pink, then her face, neck, arms, hands and legs peach around them. Leave the eyes white.
Step 13: Teal dress, brown hair
Colour the mom's dress teal above and below the belt, and her hair brown.
Step 14: Purple dress, yellow hair
Colour the girl's dress purple above and below the belt, and her hair and pigtails yellow.
Step 15: Red belts and shoes
Colour both belts and all the shoes red. Go over your lines and your mom and kid are done.
