How to Draw a Paint Drip

11 steps · Medium · about 8 min

Draw a paint drip in 11 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the top edge.

Print

  1. Step 1: The top edge

Start near the top left. Draw a long straight line across. Stop near the top right. Curl both ends down.

Tip Keep this line straight and level: all the paint hangs from it.

  2. Step 2: The first drip

Start at the left end. Draw a drip straight down, round its tip and back up. Stop in an arch.

  3. Step 3: A short drip

Start where you stopped. Draw a short narrow drip down and back up. Stop in another arch.

Tip Make every drip a different length, so the paint looks like it is really running.

  4. Step 4: A fat drip

Start where you stopped. Draw a longer drip that swells into a round blob. Stop in an arch.

Tip A drip gets fat at the bottom, where the wet paint collects.

  5. Step 5: A thin drip

Start where you stopped. Draw a short thin drip down and back up. Stop in an arch.

  6. Step 6: The long drip

Start where you stopped. Draw the longest drip, swelling into a fat round blob. Stop in an arch.

  7. Step 7: The last drip

Start where you stopped. Draw one more drip and go up to join the right end of the top.

Tip Now the paint is one closed shape with no gaps.

  8. Step 8: Wet shines

On each fat blob and on the first drip draw a thin oval shine, like a grain of rice.

  9. Step 9: Falling drops

Under the first drip and under the smaller blob draw a falling drop: pointed on top, round underneath.

Tip Leave a gap above each drop, so it looks like it has just let go.

  10. Step 10: Colour the drops

Colour the 2 falling drops purple.

  11. Step 11: Purple paint

Colour all the dripping paint purple, around the shines. Leave the shines white. Your paint drip is done!
