How to Draw a Celtic Knot

10 steps · Medium · about 8 min

Draw a Celtic knot in 10 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the first loop.

Print

  1. Step 1: The first loop

In the middle draw a fat ribbon loop, 2 lines curving round. Stop short at both ends.

Tip One ribbon weaves over and under itself 3 times.

  2. Step 2: The second loop

Start above the right end, go over the top end, and loop round the top left to the first loop.

Tip Leave a gap one ribbon wide at the right end. The last loop goes over it.

  3. Step 3: The third loop

Start inside the left side, go over the right gap, and loop round the top right to the second loop.

  4. Step 4: Centre lines

Draw a thin line down the middle of each ribbon, stopping a little before each end.

  5. Step 5: Sparkles on the left

On the left of the knot draw 2 sparkle stars, one higher and one lower.

  6. Step 6: Sparkles on the right

Draw 2 more sparkle stars on the right to match.

  7. Step 7: The floor

Touching the bottom of the knot, draw a straight floor line, stopping a thumb from each edge.

  8. Step 8: A shadow

Across the bottom of the knot, draw a thin flat oval on the floor line for its shadow.

  9. Step 9: Yellow sparkles, grey shadow

Colour the 4 sparkles yellow and the shadow grey.

  10. Step 10: Green knot

Go over your lines, then colour all 3 ribbons green. Your celtic knot is done!
