How to Draw a Paint Can

12 steps · Medium · about 9 min

Draw a paint can in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the rim.

Print

  1. Step 1: The rim

Above the middle draw a wide flat oval, as wide as your hand. Draw a slightly smaller oval inside.

  2. Step 2: The can

Start at each end of the big oval. Draw a line straight down, a hand long. Join the bottoms.

Tip Straight sides: a paint can is a tin, not a bucket.

  3. Step 3: Two big eyes

On the front of the can draw 2 big egg eyes, one eye apart. Add a dot with a shine.

  4. Step 4: Smile and cheeks

Under the eyes draw a wide U smile from eye to eye. Add a small oval cheek beside each end.

  5. Step 5: Paint inside

Inside the rim draw a wavy line from the left end to the right end for the paint.

  6. Step 6: Two drips

Start on the front of the small oval. Draw a long drip over the rim, down and back up. Twice.

Tip Rub out the rim line inside each drip.

  7. Step 7: The wire handle

From the left end of the rim draw a tall thin rainbow handle over to the right end.

  8. Step 8: The lid

On the right draw the lid leaning on the can: a tall oval with a smaller oval inside.

Tip The lid is a round disc seen from the side.

  9. Step 9: Ground and shadow

Draw a ground line under the can from far left to far right. Add a thin oval shadow under it.

  10. Step 10: Pink cheeks, grey tin

Colour the cheeks pink, then the can and its shadow light grey around them. Leave the eyes and drips white.

  11. Step 11: Grey inside, red paint

Colour the inside above the paint light grey. Colour the paint, both drips and the lid's middle red.

  12. Step 12: Dark grey rim

Colour the rim band, handle and lid ring dark grey around the red. Your paint can is done!
