How to Draw an Origami Crane

10 steps · Medium · about 8 min

Draw an origami crane in 10 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the body.

Print

  1. Step 1: The body

Below the middle of your paper, draw a wide diamond: a low point on top and a deeper point underneath.

Tip Every line of an origami crane is straight: it is folded paper.

  2. Step 2: The big wing

Across the top of the body, draw a big wide triangle wing with its sharp tip high up, leaning right.

Tip Rub out the body line inside the wing.

  3. Step 3: A happy face

On the body under the wing, draw 2 round eyes with black dots. Add a small U smile under them.

  4. Step 4: Neck and head

From the left point, draw a long thin neck slanting up left. Add a tiny triangle head on the tip.

  5. Step 5: The tail

From the body's right point, draw a long thin triangle slanting up to the right, ending in a sharp tip.

  6. Step 6: The fold line

Draw a straight line from the wing tip down to the middle of the wing's bottom edge.

  7. Step 7: The ground

Draw a straight ground line touching the bottom point of the body, from well left to well right.

  8. Step 8: Sparkles

Draw 3 sparkle stars around the crane, like plus signs with curvy dips.

  9. Step 9: Yellow stars, pink cheeks

Colour the sparkles yellow and the cheeks pink.

  10. Step 10: Sky blue paper

Colour the crane sky blue around the cheeks, but colour the wing right of the fold and the tail blue.

    Tip Leave the eyes white.
